The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities has been conducted by the Cybermetrics Lab, which is a research group belonging to the Spanish Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), since 2004. The ranking, which is published twice a year, takes into account a university’s performance in the online world, and not its teaching qualities. The Webometrics Ranking encourages the web publications of all universities across the globe via the Open Access Initiative, which is an indicator of the university’s capability to share academic knowledge to the world as well as the modernity of its information system in a globalized world.
