MAHAMAKUT BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY (MBU) was founded on 1 October 1893/ 2436 by King Rama V or King Chulalongkorn as in remembrance of his late father King Rama IV or King Mongkut. The university aims to become the educational institution for studying the Buddha’s teachings and the Pali language for Buddhist monks and novices.
Later on 30 December 1945 / 2488, an another education institution was set up in an affiliate with the university. This education institution is known in the name of the education council of Mahamakut Buddhist University which is well known as the first Buddhist University in Thailand..
Vision
An educational institution producing graduates fully-equipped with good knowledge and behaviour,who earn their living according to holy abiding; a source of Buddhist knowledge and scholars capable to guide the society and end all debates on Buddhism academically; and an institution acclaimed for its good governance meeting the global standards.

- To craft the Thai society to be a well-protected and knowledge-based society, as well as a society of harmony and compassion, and
- To administer the organization to the global standards.
